Boxcar Rules and Regulations

2012 Race Season

Equipment Requirements

  • Find or purchase a minimum 2'X2" cardboard box.  One with clean sides will work the best.
  • Tape the flaps shut on both the top and bottom of the box.
  • Cut a round hold in both the top and bottom of the box, so the box will fit down over your child's body.
  • Mount handles on the sides or straps to fit over the shoulders.
  • Color and decorate the entire outside of the box.  The words "Lil Racer Car Club" must be printed in block letters in the lower left-hand corner of the two sides.
  • Use paper plates for wheels.  Pick a number for your car and put it on the sides.
  • Avoid attachments that will make the box too heavy.
  • Wear tennis shoes or sneakers that TIE only.
  • Wear socks.  Extra pair optional.  (See pit stop notes).

The Race and Age Groups

Racers will be divided into the following groups:

Ages 2, 3, 4, 5
Ages 6, 7, 8,
Ages 9, 10, 11
Ages 12, 13, 14
  • The race will take place on the front of the racetrack.
  • Start at the left end of the straightaway.
  • Stop at the "finish line" near turn 1 for Pit Stop (see notes).

Rules for Pit Stop

During the pit stop, all racers must remove their socks and shoes and then put them back on and tie them securely before reentering the race.  You my bring a spare pair of socks.  For younger racers, a parent may be a helping pit stop person.

Prizes

  • Trophy for the "best looking" boxcar in each class (chosen by an independent judge.)
  • Winners of each race to move into the next round.
  • All racers will receive a ribbon of participation.

Hopefully we will do this 2-3 times this year with the "boxcar championships" toward the end of the race season.  Trophies will be awarded for the winners of each class at the championships.

Keep your car in good condition and in a safe place.
Parents:  Please help your children with their cars but let them color and decorate the cars themselves.  These are their cars.
